The Digitization Center within the Digital Conversion and Media Reformatting Unit at the University of Maryland Libraries seeks an individual to work 15-20 hours/week through the 2013-2014 academic year (with the potential for continuation as funding allows) as the Audio Digitization Student Assistant. This individual will digitally reformat analog and digital sound recordings from the WMUC Collection.
Working in consultation with the Digital Reformatting Specialist and the Broadcast Media Digitization Librarian, this individual will inspect sound recording containers and carriers, operate legacy audio playback equipment, capture digital surrogates of sound recordings, create and augment metadata records, and prepare files for upload into Digital Collections.
Experience with special collections materials and/or legacy audio formats is highly desirable. Candidates who demonstrate experience with audio reformatting and preservation techniques, understanding of metadata standards, and comfort and familiarity with audio software, such as Adobe Audition, will be given preference.
The pay rate is $10.00 per hour. This is an hourly position only. There are no health, tuition, retirement, or vacation benefits. Applicants must be enrolled at the College Park campus.
To apply please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to Eric Cartier at firstname.lastname@example.org. Review of applications will begin the week of September 16.
