Towson University seeks a responsible, energetic, and customer-centered Library Associate to provide a range of library services, including circulation, reserves, reference, research and referral, for students, faculty and staff at the Towson Northeast campus. The Library Associate for Towson Northeast will also assist patrons using library technology and software programs and provide routine troubleshooting for equipment in the Learning Commons. This Library Associate will work with the Distance Learning/Resource Sharing Librarian to support interlibrary loan and resource sharing, facilitate library instruction and supervise student workers.
Process library materials for users in a quick, efficient, and courteous manner using an automated circulation system; retrieve faculty reserve items for users and file returned material; provide reference and research assistance utilizing print and electronic resources; assist patrons using library technology and software programs, troubleshoot equipment problems in the learning commons; and supervise student workers. Refer students and faculty to subject specialists when appropriate and collaborate with the Distance Learning/Resource Sharing Librarian to support resource sharing and facilitate library instruction. Participate in and contribute to outreach, marketing, assessment, diversity, curricular, and other library and university initiatives as appropriate; and provide other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree; 2 years library experience including using library automated systems, using electronic reference and research resources; assisting library patrons; and performing minor trouble-shooting & problem solving for library equipment such as printers & PC’s. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communications skills required. Demonstrated ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with staff and patrons; to work independently, without direct supervision, and to work collaboratively with others. Evidence of ability to learn and use technology required for the work of the position and to be flexible in a changing technological and public service environment. Initiative, energy, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of students and faculty at TU Northeast.
